About Our Blog
The Mortgage Pro Blog is a project started by Geoffrey Boyd in 2010, to provide a bit of straight shooting and expert analysis to an industry badly in need of both. We want to connect with our community of Mortgage Professionals (Bankers, Brokers, Realtors, Financial Planners and Borrowers) to start helpful conversations about difficult topics.
Mortgage Expert; Consumer Educator; All around nice guy.
I took a double major in Philosophy and Economics from Claremont McKenna and turned it into a successful career in Mortgage Banking, currently as an Area Manager for PrimeLending (a PlainsCapital company) in Portland, Oregon. At work, I specialize in VA Loans, 1st Time Buyers and Loan Rehabilitation; at home I like to spend time with my sons, play basketball and visit vineyards around the beautiful Pacific Northwest (not always in that order).
Mortgage Banking is a challenging field, but I get more satisfaction from my side projects as a consumer educator. Over the years I have worked with several local non-profit housing associations. Some of those organizations are Hacienda, AAAH, Portland Housing and PCRI (Portland Community Reinvestment Initiatives); all organizations that believe, as I do, that an informed consumer will make better financial decisions. We are also looking at ways to get involved with the veteran community, to get them better information about the unique financial opportunities that they have access to.
People enjoy working with me for two reasons, I stay away from promises that I cannot keep, and I have a talent for explaining difficult financial topics in plain english.
Marketing Nerd; Social Media Convert; Likes a tall glass of Orange Juice in the morning
I received my Bachelors Degree in Marketing from Cascade College in Portland, Oregon. I can vouch for Geoff’s talent in explaining market forces and other finance mumbo-jumbo because I regularly rely on his expertise to inform the material that we collaborate on.
About me? My job is marketing; creating messages that effectively communicate to their audience. I enjoy it and its exactly what I want to do for however long I “do” professionally. If you are reading this after July 15th (give or take 10 days), I will be the proud father of a baby boy. If you are reading this before then, I will be the slightly anxious husband of a very pregnant wife. My hobbies include playing guitar, fishing and preparing for fatherhood.
Thank you, if you are reading this, because you are the reason that this website exists – if you haven’t done so yet, subscribe to our RSS feed – its easy and your browser probably supports it already.
